To equip an apartment or house so that it is convenient and beautiful, it is not easy. Often you have to deal with the need to use non-standard solutions. Usually it is necessary to "muddle" in small rooms. The most difficult thing is to equip a full-fledged spot. A full rest is one of the components of beauty and health. There is still a way out. This is a folding bed. This furniture is also called lifting, transformer, built-in, built-in and so on.
Beds with lifting mattresses that are retracted into the cabinet, into the wall or have the form of a shelf, can be of two types: vertical and horizontal. Horizontal - a single or one and a half. They do not occupy the entire height of the cabinet and the upper shelves can be used for storage. Such models are good for children and teenagers, suitable as an option for guests.
Vertical folding beds can be any width - from 90 to 210 cm, but require the presence of high ceilings. Consider yourself: comfortable length of the mattress - 200-220 cm, plus space on the frame, on the frame of the cabinet. In total, the height of the ceilings for a 200 cm mattress should certainly be at least 220 cm, and for longer ones, even more.
Also note that the folding or lifting bed is attached to the wall. In this case, the bearing capacity of the wall should be sufficient to withstand the considerable loads that arise while the mattress is lowering or rising. Such actions will have to be repeated often, so that the wall should be reliable (gypsum plasterboard walls do not fit, as well as walls made of cellular concrete).
The folding bed can be single, one and a half, double. The mattress can be foam or spring. The mechanisms are of three types: springs, pneumatic lifts, electric drives with remote control.
Advantages and disadvantages
When deciding whether or not to buy a folding bed, it is necessary to weigh the pros and cons well. At first glance this idea is very attractive: a full bed is always good, and if it also saves space, as they say in advertising, it's just great. But is the place really economized? It depends on how you look at it.
On the one hand - the construction was raised, the place is free. So, like, and is saved. But, on the other hand, you will not put anything here. Is that some mobile furniture, which every time you need to shift to the side. This is not encouraging, and this is only the case with an acute shortage of space. In this case, the free space can be occupied by a folding / folding table (it can be built-in in another cabinet), organizing the workplace while the bed is not needed.
The second option for using this space is in a small children's room. The bed was raised, but in the space that was freed up, you can play. Also, folding beds are good if the living room needs to be turned into a guest bedroom. Although, this is an expensive option - a clamshell is much cheaper. But, it's up to you. In other cases, you can just be glad that the bed does not interfere with walking around the room.
There is one more thing. A stationary bed is good because you can always sit or lie down on them. The lifting bed does not provide such a possibility. Well, if there is a sofa or sofa, in the extreme case - an armchair. If not - wanted to sit or lie down - lay out. Although, there are models - a sofa-bed-wardrobe, which lack this lack. About them we will tell hardly more low.
Where it is better to order and what to look for
Like most other furniture, a built-in folding bed can be ordered from a private trader or factory, in a furniture shop. In this case, it is best to order where the production of such furniture is not individual, but delivered to the stream. The fact is that each order is required to select its own mechanism. If it is not chosen correctly, the bed or it will be difficult to lift, or it can rise spontaneously. Both options bring little joy, but the second is much worse, as it can lead to injuries.
When choosing a manufacturer or buying a ready-made version, be interested in the guarantee for furniture. Normally, if the furniture itself is given a warranty period of at least 1.5 years and the mechanism - at least 5 years. Also examine the locking system in the closed position, try how easy the mechanism works.
If you choose a lifting bed built into the cabinet, pay attention to the appearance of the furniture when closed. After all, in the daytime it will stand in this form and it should look good. Also, make sure that the bed frame is not much larger than the mattress. The bed with a frame protruding beyond the mattress for 10 cm is very inconvenient and threatens with permanent bruises.
Folding bed: types and features
The desire to sleep on a good bed is understandable and logical - only a comfortable sleep allows you to quickly restore strength. But you can not always put an ordinary bed. Not only that our apartments do not have a large area, rooms in them are often not enough. So we have to make the premises multifunctional (to combine a living room or an office with a bedroom) or in one room to populate two or more children. So we have to look for a solution. One of them - a folding bed or a bed-transformer. There are different types of them, so the solution can be chosen for any occasion.
Bed built-in closet
The size of a berth for a roll-up bed built into a closet can be any - from single to a full double (euro). There can be two separate beds. The main thing is that there was a place where the cabinet furniture can be installed and secured (do not forget about the need for a rigid and reliable fixation).
There are several ways to give this furniture an attractive look. After all, the bed built into the closet should look attractive not only in the unfolded, but also in the folded state. The first way: the bed hides in the closet, behind the doors. According to the type of execution of the door can be a regular swing or a type of coupe. Both options are not ideal.
The bed built into the cabinet with swinging doors in the lowered state is almost half blocked. This is not for everyone, and not very convenient.
The second option is a bed built into the closet. Here the situation is better - the head only 30-40 cm is in the closet, which practically does not interfere. But there is another drawback: the adjacent sections of the cabinet turn out to be blocked by the pushed door. That is, while the bed is thrown back, you can not use the closet.
This drawback is deprived only of cabinets with triple doors. Three doors, ride on three rails. All of them can be "driven" into one of the parts. The other two are open. In the case of a built-in folding bed, this is only possible for small models. After all, the width of the adjacent sections should be a bit wider. That is, the cabinet itself should be slightly longer than the triple width of the bed. With a bed width of 120 cm, it is 380 cm and not less. Such a closet can not be installed everywhere, but if the bed is wider ...
The third option is the most common. The back of the bed is finished in a way that resembles the closets standing next to each other. The problem here is in the legs. They are difficult to hide. Sometimes they stick like bees of a bee, which looks unattractive.
Some firms make such legs in the form of visors that protrude from the cabinet. Someone is ready to put up with such a shortcoming, someone categorically does not fit this.
There is another option with leg-shelves. It's much prettier, but also more expensive, since these are additional mechanisms and stops.
The problem with day rest is solved, if the folding bed in the "day" condition at the foot has a sofa. This option is really convenient. And in the afternoon there is a place for rest, and at night you have a full bed.
The disadvantage of this option is a high price. The bed-closet costs from $ 500, and with the sofa at the bottom of the price start at about $ 700. But it is worthwhile to say that in this form only double models are made, and they are not cheap and just like a folding bed.
Horizontal models (bed-curbstone)
A folding bed with a single or one-and-a-half bed can be made in the form of a curbstone. They are also called models of horizontal lifting, since the mattress is attached to the furniture frame behind the long side, in relation to the wall it is located along the horizon. Hence the "horizontal" rise.
Such models are slightly cheaper, since the mechanism requires a lower lifting force. And not only due to the smaller size of the sleeping place, but also due to a smaller shoulder strength.
A horizontal folding bed can also be built into the cabinet, or it can be in the form of a stand alone pedestal. When installing such furniture, it also needs to be securely fixed, but there are two ways: to the wall or to the floor. Due to the smaller loads, the fixation to the floor is also possible. In this case, you can put the bed-cube end face to the wall and use it as a space separator.
There are also bunk beds. They are good for children's rooms with two or more children. The upper tier can not be used in another way, and the lower tier can be folded as well as the table.
Interesting solutions (photo)
Need you a folding bed or not, you decide only. Basically, you have to choose between folding sofas and elevating beds. Having studied the reviews, it can be said that people of old hardening prefer more familiar sofas. They can sit and lie on them, and some models are quite comfortable today, they can be made from orthopedic mattresses (if it's important) and it's easier and more comfortable for older people to cope with them.
Young people are more inclined to built-in beds. They are more progressive, give more freedom when creating interiors. Below are the photos that can give you a push in understanding what kind of folding bed you want.
